Google AI Overviews checker: are you in Google's AI answers?

Find out whether Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode name or link your business for the searches your buyers make, and which competitors Google shows instead.

Free, and no card needed to see your score. Your audit checks Google AI Overviews and AI Mode plus every other major engine, so you see the full picture.

Google AI Overviews and AI Mode

A Google AI Overviews checker runs your buyers' searches in Google and records whether the AI Overview or AI Mode answer names your brand, links your pages, and which competitors appear instead. Google says there are no special requirements: a page must be indexed and eligible to show a snippet, so strong SEO is the foundation.

Your audit also checks

How Google AI Overviews and AI Mode decides which brands to name

Knowing where the answer comes from tells you what to fix.

Built on Google Search

AI Overviews and AI Mode are features of Google Search and draw on Google's index. Google says there are no extra technical requirements: a page needs to be indexed and eligible to appear with a snippet.

Query fan out

Google describes AI Mode and AI Overviews as able to run several related searches across subtopics to build an answer. Pages that cover the follow up questions around a topic get more chances to be used.

Normal Search controls apply

The same preview controls as regular Search apply, such as nosnippet and max-snippet. Google-Extended does not affect AI Overviews, because it only covers Gemini apps and model training.

Counted in Search Console

Google's documentation says traffic from AI features is included in your overall Search Console performance data, so it does not show you on its own whether the AI answer named you. A check fills that gap.

How to check your Google AI Overviews and AI Mode visibility by hand

You can run a first check yourself in about 15 minutes. Here is the method.

  1. 01

    Search signed out

Use a private window, signed out of Google, so your personal history does not change the result.

  2. 02

    Search like a buyer

Search your buyers' real questions, such as "best payroll software for small business", not your brand name.

  3. 03

    Check the AI Overview

Note whether an AI Overview appears, whether it names your brand, and whether it links your pages in its sources.

  4. 04

    Try AI Mode

Open AI Mode for the same question and record the brands it names, the order, and the linked sources.

  5. 05

    Repeat by location

Results vary by place and time, so repeat key searches for the cities or countries you sell in, and track them weekly.

Checking by hand is slow and hard to repeat fairly. The ONEGO audit asks the same questions consistently across all five engines and keeps the history, so you can see the trend.

Questions to test in Google AI Overviews and AI Mode

Fill in the brackets with your category, customers and competitors. These six cover how buyers actually ask.

Question to ask What it tells you
What is the best [category] for [type of customer]? The core recommendation question. Being named here is the prize.
[Competitor] alternatives Buyers comparing options. Shows whether you are in the consideration set.
[Your brand] vs [competitor] Shows how the engine describes you head to head, and whether it gets the facts right.
Best [category] in [city or country] Essential for local and regional businesses. Answers change by location.
Is [your brand] good for [use case]? Reveals the sentiment and the facts the engine holds about you.
How do I [problem your product solves]? Problem led questions where engines may recommend a product as the answer.

How to improve your Google AI Overviews and AI Mode visibility

  • Rank for the question

AI Overviews draw heavily on pages that already rank well for the query, so classic SEO for your buyers' questions comes first.

  • Lead with the answer

Put a short, direct answer under a question heading, then the detail. Google can lift a clear answer straight into the overview.

  • Cover the follow up questions

Because of query fan out, a page that also answers the related questions buyers ask next has more chances to be included.

  • Stay snippet eligible

Avoid nosnippet and very short max-snippet limits on pages you want quoted, and make sure Googlebot can crawl them.

No. Google says no special schema or markup is required for AI features. Structured data that matches your visible content still helps Google understand your pages and business.
